Caspian the Dane

Updated: Oct 30, 2019

We adopted a Great Dane since Hazey passed. His name is Caspian. He is 14 months old (his birthday is January 2, 2018) and very much a puppy. He was a re-homing case- a family adopted him as a puppy then something in their lives changed and they returned him. It's very sad for the dog- he lost his original forever home. When a dog is returned, I feel like the first question many people ask is, "Why did they return him? Is there something wrong with him?" Usually it's just unfortunate circumstances.

Gotcha Day-March 11, 2019

We adopted Caspian (aka Caspi, Casper) on March 11, 2019. We've now had him in our home for two weeks. He is a good dog and a fast learner. We are planning on having him professionally trained-he is too big to not do so. Until then though, we are working with him on the basics-sit, stay, don't take food from the counter/table. The necessaries. He is learning so quick! He is very good at sit. The food is more of a challenge. We are also working on leash training him (if we don't he will drag us, especially me). To help us with this journey, I ordered a Gentle Leader from Amazon.com (the woman we bought him from suggested this- I will put the link to this product at the bottom of the post). We are still only practicing in the house with it-he doesn't like it on his face yet. The goal of the Gentle Leader is to help quickly regain your dog's attention without hurting them. I'll make a separate post specifically about the Gentle Leader and our progress.

When we adopted Caspi, we knew very little about Great Danes-like the fact that they slobber excessively. This is the only drawback to owning a Dane but I'm sure after he's been around for awhile we won't even notice it. (He is a major change from our greyhound.) I love how giant and gentle he is. He wants all the attention and tries his best to be a lap dog regardless of the fact that he currently weights 110 lbs (he is not full grown). We are still learning about the Great Dane breed-I will create a blog section all about Great Danes and our journey with our lovely new pup. I hope you enjoy our Caspi as much as we do!

Follow us on IG and FB for more up-to-date posts on Caspi's life! Username is still @hazeythegreyt - I haven't been able to bring myself to change it yet. We also have dog products available to buy through Amazon.com. Just type in Alpha Lifestyle Pets in Amazon's search bar to find us! Currently, we have a matching paisley martingale collar and leash available. For more information about martingale collars, see my previous blog post. Thanks for joining us here today!
