Why choose a Martingale?

Martingale collars are considered a humane choke collar. The difference between a choke collar and a martingale is the martingale doesn't actually choke your dog. The martingale collar will tighten when the dog pulls but only a certain amount. The tightening effect makes it impossible for the collar to slip off of the dogs head when properly fitted.

The martingale is made of 2 loops. The larger loop sits on the dogs neck like a regular collar. The smaller loop has the D-ring where the leash attaches. This 2 loop feature is how the collar tightens and doesn't choke your dog.

Martingale collars are safer than choke collars and regular collars- both can damage your dog's throat from pressure. Martingale collars are easier to put on than a harness which is generally the only other alternative.

Martingale collars also tend to reduce the amount a dog pulls on the leash. They don't always completely eliminate pulling but they do help to reduce it.

Martingale collars come in many different colors and patterns. There are also different widths available-ranging from 0.5 inches to 2 inches wide. People with long necked dogs, such as the greyhound, sometimes prefer the wider collars to show off the pattern more. Your dog has to have the neck length for that though.

I love martingale collars and use them with our Great Dane and German Shepherd whenever we take walks. These collars keep the dog safer and help me to maintain control.
